EKAW (pronounced /ˈiːkoʊ/) conference serves as a premier gathering for scholars, researchers, and practitioners in the fields of knowledge engineering and knowledge management. A hitchhiker’s guide to Ontology
Language Models have brought major breakthroughs in natural language processing.
Notwithstanding this success, I will show that certain applications still need
symbolic representations. I will then show how different methods (language models and
others) can be harnessed to build such symbolic representations. I will also introduce
our main project in this direction, the YAGO knowledge base. I will then talk about
the incompleteness of knowledge bases. We have developed several techniques to
estimate how much data is missing in a knowledge base, as well as rule mining methods
to derive that data. I will then present our work on efficient querying of knowledge
bases. Finally, I will talk about applications of knowledge bases in the domain of
speech analysis and the digital humanities, as well as about our methods for
explainable AI.

The Conference
EKAW-24's Special Theme: Knowledge in the Age of Language Models
EKAW publishes original, high-quality papers related to eliciting, acquiring, modelling, and managing knowledge. Topics of EKAW24 include, but are not limited to, semantic web, knowledge management, knowledge discovery, information integration, natural language processing, intelligent systems, e-business, e-health, humanities, cultural heritage. In addition, this year's conference invites research articles focusing on algorithms, tools, methodologies, and applications that leverage the interplay between knowledge and Language Models. The contributions should deepen our understanding of how Language Models contribute to the dynamic landscape of knowledge acquisition and engineering and vice versa.
Proceedings
As with past proceedings, the EKAW 2024 proceedings will be published as a Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) volume. Authors are requested to consult the Instructions for Authors and adhere to the provided guidelines to ensure acceptance and a smooth publication process.
