You are all welcome to attend and participate in the discussion! Date: 16 November 2012 Time: 11:00-12:00 Room: L017 Speaker: Patricia Lago (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) - see bio below Title: Supporting GSE Communities as Agile Service Networks Abstracts: see below ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Supporting GSE Communities as Agile Service Networks Communities of developers have rapidly become global, encompassing multiple timezones and cultures. In this vivid scenario, global development involves many types of interactions across different types of communities. While global development have promised considerable advantages like lower costs, cheaper manpower, faster delivery and higher quality, little has been done to turn global development into an engineering discipline, hence making these advantages predictable and controllable. Among the aspects that should improve the support for global development there is the way global communities of developers should be better supported. This talk introduces our upstarting research in investigating the possible shapes of communities for software development, and described initial mechanisms aimed at uncovering and supporting communities emerging during development. Such support is provided by Agile Service Networks (ASNs), i.e. sets of people and information brought together by the internet. Our vision is for ASNs to sustain communities by supporting them explicitly through ad-hoc software services and adaptation dynamics. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Biography Patricia Lago is associate professor at the VU University Amsterdam, the Netherlands, leading the group on software and services. Her research interests are in software- and service oriented architecture, architectural knowledge management, empirical software engineering and green IT. She has a PhD in Control and Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy. She is chair of the IEEE/IFIP WICSA Steering Committee, member of the IFIP 2.10 Working group on Software Architecture, the IFIP 2.14 Working group on Services-based Systems, and the Dutch Knowledge Network on Green Software. She is area editor Service Orientation of the Journal of Systems and Software (Elsevier), and member of the editorial board of Journal of Software - Evolution and Process (Wiley) and Journal of Conference Papers in Computer Science (Hindawi). She is member of ACM and IEEE.
