speaker. Dinesh is an alumnus of CWI and has worked with Paul Klint,
Jan Heering, Arie van Deursen and others from 1991 to 1997! Now he is
with Janastu in Bangalore, India. Janastu has been providing open
source solutions and research support to small not-for-profit and
non-governmental organizations since 2002. Dinesh is also associated
with International Institute of Art Culture and Democracy, Bangalore.

         Xpaths + Semantic Tweets = Social Semantic Web?

Our journey to XPaths started with the work on Re-narration Web last
year. Re-narration Web attempts to bridge the gap in web accessibility
discourses in addressing the needs of non-literate web users. While
some simple accessibility guidelines for content authoring are needed,
provisioning of alternative narratives of the content for visitors who
are differently abled/literate is delegated to stakeholder social
circles. Alipi, an implementation of Re-narration Web, marks the
reference elements using Xpaths in addition to attributes that
identify target groups for this narrative.

In the Indian Digital Heritage project (IDH) this year, we are
investigating a generalization of the above. One of the goals of IDH
is to see that people can set up heritage web sites and contribute to
heritage knowledge. Essential component for such heritage setup is a
knowledge bank that assists, in virtual heritage walks. For this we
plan on collecting semantic tweets about artifacts (ref by xpaths),
letting people curate tweets, and style walk presentations.

This will be a demo discussion talk seeking inputs on future directions.
