Tomorrow there will be a PEM presentation/discussion on experimental replications, the abstract of which follows. The time and place is usual. See you there! Date: 25 May 2012 Time: 11:00 Room: L017 (CWI) Speaker: Vadim Zaytsev Title: Experimental Replications Abstract: see below ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Experimental Replications The value of experimental replications is claimed to be well established. In computer science and software engineering, as well as in grammarware engineering and metaprogramming, there are common situations when even if there is an available previously published case study, its value is seriously undermined by new developments or methodological differences, or which lacks important information. In such a scenario, a new experiment is needed, which should be properly set up (for the sake of establishing superiority), performed (for the sake of getting information out of it) and described (for the sake of publishing). With all the attention being paid to replicability of experiments and studies reported in conference papers, the question of actually doing the replications deserves to be discussed as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- http://event.cwi.nl/pem ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Yours, Vadim.
