Riemer will give an overview of his research domain. Date: 9 March 2012 Time: 11:00 Room: L017 (CWI) Speaker: Riemer van Rozen Title: Language-Centric Approaches for Game Development Abstract: see below ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Language-Centric Approaches for Game Development Game production is a multi-disciplinary field, which lacks software development techniques that enable early quality assurance. Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) can help to increase software quality early in the game development process, because they are better suited to the needs of domain experts than the general-purpose languages that are commonly used. Although DSLs have been successfully applied to various problem domains, their application to computer game development has not been extensively documented. Scientific publications describe the use of DSLs for games in science and education, but their application in the game industry and the validation of theoretical results in practice are scarcely reported. The EQuA (Early Quality Assurance) project aims to research how the application of DSLs in the development of computer games can help to increase software quality and developer productivity. In this talk, we give an introduction to the project agenda and present the first findings of a survey on DSLs and other language-centric approaches for game development. The survey classifies languages, describes problems to be addressed and relates these to opportunities for future work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- http://event.cwi.nl/pem ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Yours, Vadim.
