Subject: PEM Talk this Thursday: Tiago Alves, "Benchmark-based Software Product Quality" From: Bas Basten To: pem-list, sen-list Date: Tue, 21 Jun 2011 14:08:36 +0200 (CEST) Dear all, This Thursday, Tiago Alves (Software Improvement Group; University of Minho, Portugal) is visiting SEN1, and will give the following talk: Title: "Benchmark-based Software Product Quality" Abstract: Key to software product quality is the ability to measure, evaluate and rank software systems. In this presentation we will introduce a novel methodology to use source code metrics to evaluate and rank software systems against a benchmark. Thresholds are derived from a benchmark and used in a two-stage process to aggregate metrics, first to risk profiles and afterwards to ratings. A rating summarizes a metric at system-level, allowing it to compare and evaluate a software. Thresholds also allow to drill down from ratings to measurements, enabling root-cause analysis. We explain the methodologies to derive thresholds from benchmark data and their role in the SIG quality model. Finally, using two space-domain software systems, we show how the whole process enables meaningful analysis and evaluation of software systems. The talk starts at 10am in room L016 at CWI. You are cordially invited. Best regards, Bas Basten
