Time : 10:00 Date : June 7th, 2007 Room : M280, CWI Speaker: Dennis Hendriks (Master student TU Eindhoven) Titel : The ToolBus - Hierarchy, abstraction, namespaces and dependability Abstract: The ToolBus coordination architecture has some features (like its basis in process algebra), which make it unique. However, the ToolBus can still be improved in several ways. In my master's project I (mainly) concentrate on adding more structure to the (currently unstructured) group of ToolBus processes. I propose a hierarchical structure of ToolBus processes and a communication restriction that enforces abstraction. The benefit of my approach includes (among others) clearly defined interfaces for subsystems and easier reuse of those subsystems. I also introduce namespaces (for messages, notes and processes) in order to solve the problem of name clashes, while at the same time adding more abstraction. Finally, I make a first step towards dependable ToolBus systems. As part of my master's project, I will not only design these improvements, but I will also implement them in the Java version of the ToolBus (ToolBusNG). Best regards, Jurgen Vinju
