This one will be given by Slinger Jansen. He will describe his work on Pheme. Location: to be announced Time: 10:00 Date: 28th July (NB: this is on a Friday) Abstract: see below Hope you will all come and not be on holiday! Cheers, Tijs Pheme: a Communication Infrastructure for Knowledge Distribution between a Vendor and its End-users Even though product software is built for a specific problem domain and vendors of such products aim to build the best product within that domain, they are constantly hampered by the fact that they need to build tools for knowledge distribution between end-users and vendors. Such knowledge encompasses software products, software updates, product licenses, feedback reports, usage reports, and commercial information. During 9 case studies performed in the past, however, we did not encounter one vendor that distributes such knowledge through one application or one channel. Communication between vendor and end user is further complicated once the product is part of a software supply network, instead of the traditional monolithic vendor-customer relationship. In this SEM we present and demonstrate a communication infrastructure that enables product software vendors to stick to their business and distribute knowledge through one channel only, called Pheme. Pheme aims to provide an easily adaptable interface for any software application to enable communication between end users and vendors, with possible governance by parties in a software supply network. Furthermore, we discuss future plans for Pheme, and the meta-environment as a possible grounds for further evaluation. -- drs.
