This announcement can be found at The Police Files -- JJForester applied Date: 24.01.02 Time: 10:00 Venue: F.013 (UVA) Speaker: Tobias Kuipers and Joost Visser Title: The Police Files -- JJForester applied Part I: Recent developments regarding JJForester Since the previous PEM on JJForester (14.12.2000), this tool has undergone many changes and has made a new friend: JJTraveler. While JJForester is responsible for generating Java class hierarchies from SDF grammars, JJTraveler supplies a library of generic visitor combinators that can be used to implement operations on such hierarchies. A full update on the features and capabilities of both JJs will be presented. Part II: Application of JJForester for system analysis At the Software Improvement Group (SIG), JJForester and JJTraveler have been deployed for the development of analysis tools, in particular for the Dutch police. During this project, practical lessons have been learned about applying GLR parsing and visitor combinator programming to program understanding problems. Expect creamy details on bug chasing, work-arounds, performance penalties, grammar brittleness, and more. Finally we will present a list of discussion points regarding the use of "CWI technology" at SIG. Have a nice day. _________________________________________________________________ The programming environment meetings are a forum for the presentation and discussion of new ideas, ongoing and finished work. A typical meeting addresses a subject in the area of programming environments, program generation, algebraic specification, term rewriting, parsing, etc. A presentation ideally takes between 45 and 90 minutes. Meetings taking longer than 45 minutes are interrupted by a coffeebreak. Most Thursdays, a meeting is held which starts at 10:00 am. in one of the rooms at CWI/WINS. Exceptionally, dates or times may change. The program of the meetings is available on WWW: http://www.cwi.nl/~jurgenv/pem/index.html _________________________________________________________________
