Zohra Bouguillara and Tesla Ganpat will talk about TBHelp and generic tool to add a help facility to ToolBus applications. This announcement can be found with links at Student PEM - TBHelp: A Help Authoring Tool for ToolBus Applications Date: 16.08.01 Time: 10:00 Venue: M.279 Speaker: Zohra Bouguillara and Tesla Ganpat Title: Student PEM - TBHelp: A Help Authoring Tool for ToolBus Application s In large software systems the user interface and system are often complex and difficult to navigate. It is necessary to provide users with online help to support users in effectively using applications. Such online help systems can include providing online documentation such as quick tours, online manuals, tutorials and other collections of information. Building online help systems can be a time-consuming and complex process, especially when large navigational structures are required. Help authoring tools can save substantial effort in building help systems for applications by automating the process of creating and organizing help content as much as possible. In this paper, we investigate how such help authoring support can be developed and provided in the context of a component interconnection architecture, the ToolBus. After a review on modern help authoring tools and online help systems, we developed a component-based help authoring tool, TBHelp. The software components of TBHelp are interconnected with the ToolBus software architecture and each component automates part of the help authoring process. TBHelp generates HTML-based help systems that can be viewed on any HTML browser and provides basic help features. Have a nice day. _________________________________________________________________ The programming environment meetings are a forum for the presentation and discussion of new ideas, ongoing and finished work. Meetings taking longer than 45 minutes are interrupted by a coffeebreak. Most Thursdays, a meeting is held which starts at 10:00 am. in one of the rooms at CWI/WINS. Exceptionally, dates or times may change. The program of the meetings is available on WWW: http://www.cwi.nl/~jurgenv/pem/index.html _________________________________________________________________
