And we also have a GATE CHANGE: room H3.20 (NIKHEF). We apalogize for any inconvenience and wish you a safe PEM talk. Jurgen Vinju This announcement can be found at Grammars as Contracts Date: 5.10.00 Time: 14:00 Venue: H3.20, NIKHEF Speaker: Joost Visser Title: Grammars as Contracts Joint work with Merijn de Jonge Component-based development of language tools stands in need of meta-tool support. This support can be offered by generation of code -- libraries or full-fledged components -- from syntax definitions. We develop a comprehensive architecture for such syntax-driven meta-tooling in which grammars serve as contracts between components. This architecture addresses exchange and processing both of full parse trees and of abstract syntax trees, and it caters for the integration of generated parse and pretty-print components with tree processing components. We discuss an instantiation of the architecture for the syntax definition formalism Sdf, integrating both existing and newly developed meta-tools that support Sdf. The ATerm format is adopted as exchange format. This instantiation gives special attention to adaptability, scalability, reusability, and maintainability issues surrounding language tool development. http://www.cwi.nl/~jvisser/papers/GrammarsAsContracts.ps _________________________________________________________________ The programming environment meetings are a forum for the presentation and discussion of new ideas, ongoing and finished work. A typical meeting addresses a subject in the area of programming environments, program generation, algebraic specification, term rewriting, parsing, etc. A presentation ideally takes between 45 and 90 minutes. Meetings taking longer than 45 minutes are interrupted by a coffeebreak. Most Thursdays, a meeting is held which starts at 10:00 am. in one of the rooms at CWI/WINS. Exceptionally, dates or times may change. The program of the meetings is available on WWW: http://www.cwi.nl/~pem _________________________________________________________________
