Please note that this talk will be at the UvA! On the other side of the building! Please note! This announcement can be found at A transformational approach to grammar adaptation Date: 13.07.00 Time: 10:00 Venue: F0.09, UvA WINS Speaker: Ralf Lämmel Title: A transformational approach to grammar adaptation We employ grammar transformations for the adaptation of grammars. Starting from a few fundamental grammar transformations, and some supplementary notions like focus, yielder and constraint we derive an operator suite for grammar adaptation. Three major kinds of adaptations are separated, namely, transformations for refactoring, construction and destruction. While refactoring is semantics-preserving in the narrow sense, transformations for construction and destruction require the consideration of relaxed notions of semantics-preservation based on other grammar relations than equality of generated languages. The consideration of (relaxed forms of) semantics-preservation is slightly complicated by the fact that we can not insist on reduced and terminated grammars. A derived transformational approach to grammar improvement has been successfully applied in grammar recovery projects. _________________________________________________________________ The programming environment meetings are a forum for the presentation and discussion of new ideas, ongoing and finished work. A typical meeting addresses a subject in the area of programming environments, program generation, algebraic specification, term rewriting, parsing, etc. A presentation ideally takes between 45 and 90 minutes. Meetings taking longer than 45 minutes are interrupted by a coffeebreak. Most Thursdays, a meeting is held which starts at 10:00 am. in one of the rooms at CWI/WINS. Exceptionally, dates or times may change. The program of the meetings is available on WWW: http://www.cwi.nl/~pem _________________________________________________________________
