From: Bas Basten To: sen1-list Subject: SEN1 Meeting tomorrow, Davy Landman Dear all, At tomorrow's SEN1 Meeting, Davy Landman will give a talk about his master' s project: Title: Exploring methods for locating features in software systems Abstract: When designing a Domain Specific Language (DSL), the variabilities of the language are important. When the DSL is based on one or more existing software systems, it is interesting to extract the variabilities from those systems. We introduces feature localisation, the mapping of features to source code, as a possible approach for extracting these variabilities. We found no publications directly comparing the different approaches for feature local isation. Therefore, the primary contribution of our master project is an evaluation method to compare these approaches. Moreover, we present an initial comparison, and find that, for our features and software system, ACOMPS and DFT achieve the highest accuracy (around 50%). However, we find large variabilities between results and discus how these variabilities can be reduced. Furthermore, we discuss if it is ever possible to generalize the results of a comparison between feature localisation approaches and propose future research directions. We also perform an exploratory investigation in another parameter previously not investigated, the mapping between test scenarios and features. We find that this parameter has a impact on the results, and we conclude that future research is needed to better understand this parameter. As usual, we start at 10am in room L016. Hope to see you all there! Cheers, Bas
