Date: Wed, 25 May 2011 14:28:40 +0200 (CEST) From: Bas Basten To: sen1-list Subject: SEN1 Meeting tomorrow: Atze van der Ploeg Dear all, At tomorrow's SEN1 meeting, Atze will talk about his Master's project. His talk is titled "An overview of compiling lazy functional languages" Abstract: In recent years lazy functional languages, such as Haskell, have become much more efficient. In this talk we give an overview of the modern approach to compiling lazy functional languages. Because these languages are at a higher level of abstraction than imperative (regular) languages, such as C and Java, this process is more elaborate. We do not directly translate the source code to the target language (for example C or assembly). Instead the translation involves several intermediate languages. We will discuss those intermediate languages and how they cooperate, with an emphasis on how laziness is implemented. We start at 10am in room L016. See you all there! Cheers, Bas
